Talentbay (later on talentee), a visionary force in the recruitment industry, set out to revolutionize how students and businesses connect. Their goal: create user-friendly platforms linking talented university students with dynamic companies. To turn this vision into reality, talentee partnered with TWG - a special task force for mobile app development in React Native.

Bridging the gap between students and employers: the talentbay challenge

Talentbay embarked on the ambitious task of building a comprehensive solution for two distinct user groups: companies and students. The mission? Facilitate seamless connections between them. The development process presented its challenges, including creating an engaging swipe game, intricate UX design, robust analytics, and establishing a CI/CD pipeline for automated deployments.

Technical challenges for our team remembers:

• Taking over design work made by someone else is always tricky. In this case, most of the work was already done by talentbay’s design team. Because of that, our work was focused on maintaining general design direction. This was especially challenging when we got to work on engaging swipe games for web and mobile.
• Implementing comprehensive event-based analytics to track user behavior and engagement.
• Establishing a robust CI/CD pipeline for automated deployment across various environments.

Synergy in action: TWG & talentbay’s partnership

TWG joined the project right at the start of the development, working hand-in-hand with Talentee's internal team. Talentbay's experts were responsible for general architecture, DevOps, data design, and matching algorithm. They also had a product team responsible for initial UX and product management. TWG's role changed throughout the project's duration. Our specialists covered Front-end and Back-end coding, CI/CD pipelines, and Quality Assurance. Later, we took over UX work for features such as swipe games. The main goal was to ensure a seamless and integrated approach to the project.

What we built together

Our collaboration was very dynamic, as during the length of the project we covered nearly every aspect of the development. Starting with frontend & mobile development (2020) we used React Native, to craft a visually intuitive mobile app, ensuring an exceptional user experience for students.

A year later, we started supporting the team with backend development, taking charge of a robust architecture to support the platform's functionalities.

In the meantime, we worked on rigorous testing and quality assurance processes to guarantee a bug-free and seamless user experience. The last one was also a point we are particularly proud of, as our team took over UX & UI Design. We crafted an interface, focusing on user-friendly navigation and engaging visuals to enhance user interaction.

A peek into talentbay’s features

Onboarding flows

Streamlined onboarding experiences were designed for students and businesses, offering an accessible account creation process. Animated progress bars guided users through the setup.

We have simplified the process of creating a profile and starting to use the application to a minimum. Registration and login were also possible using external providers such as Google and Apple. According to client specification, we have created separate account creation processes for students and employers, in order to improve conversion. As this is the first thing users see after installing the application, we ensured that the excellent graphic design encourages them to proceed further. The process required completing several individual steps. For this purpose, we created an animated progress bar that indicated the current stage and delighted the eye with its design. We also created transitions between screens of each process step using engaging animations that enhanced the interaction.

Swipe game feature

One of the most interesting features we implemented was an interactive swipe game - a core feature enabling users to discover their best matches. Reanimated elements, on-scroll animations, and card snapping were integrated with data analytics to measure user engagement.

A well-designed, interactive list of available contacts created for enjoyable browsing and supporting gestures on mobile devices. In addition to containing information about the candidate, users could click on a contact to view more details. The list has also been optimized to avoid slowing down the device. Scrolling through the list is a pleasure due to the implementation of visually appealing animations. Another feature was the use of analytical tools to measure users' time analyzing a particular card. This allows us to determine which profiles interest them the most and guide them in the right direction.

Student-employer connections

This piece made possible connecting students with potential employers based on education, experience, and shared interests. If both parties were interested in establishing contact, they could communicate via chat to get to know each other and collaborate.

The chat was designed according to the best current standards and included all necessary functionalities. We designed it to be user-friendly while also looking great. Opening the chat screen was accompanied by an animation of the user's photo transitioning from one screen to another. Users were also notified of new unread messages to ensure they got all the opportunities for collaboration.

Job posting and application

Talentbay wanted to enable users to post job offers and apply for them, streamlining the hiring process. We allowed users to include as much relevant data as possible to capture attention. The cards displaying this information were designed to generate interest immediately.

Profile editing and management

This section provided tools for users to edit and manage their profiles, teams, and companies, enhancing user experience and personalization.

Messaging and notifications

We implemented notification handling in the application to ensure users get everything important. The most important notifications included information about new pings and messages, allowing users to respond quickly to potential collaboration opportunities.

Using Firebase and Apollo Client ensured a secure and scalable backend infrastructure.
